clough_margaret_reed1925 ~ 2010 Loving Mother and Grandmother, Margaret Reed Clough, 85, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Blacksburg, Va. Margaret, known to her friends as “Peg,” was born on January 15, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and spent her youth growing up in East Cleveland, Ohio, with her sister, Dorothy, and brother, Kenneth. During high school, Peg met the love of her life, Russ Clough, and following his service in the Pacific during World War II, they married and together settled down in Highland Heights, Ohio, to raise a family of four children, Douglas Clough, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Robert Clough, in Mission Viejo, Calif., Jim Clough, in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Ellen Darden, in Blacksburg, Va. Peg was a graduate of Western Reserve University (Mather College) with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Decorating and their family home reflected her love of keeping a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere to raise a family. Together with her husband and friends, they founded Highland Presbyterian Church, now Highland Sixth United Presbyterian Church, so that they could have a local place of worship. Margaret was active in the local Hillcrest Family YMCA where she worked as physical education director and served on the board of directors, and participated in school activities including PTA. She enjoyed bowling with her husband and friends, attending the Cleveland Playhouse Theatre, swimming and travel with her husband and family as well as watching the many activities of her children and grandchildren. Peg and Russ enjoyed a monthly dinner club and a monthly bridge club during their younger days. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Blacksburg, Va., to be near her daughter, Ellen Darden, her husband, Steve, and their two daughters. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Ada May (Best) Reed; her husband of over 50 years, Russell Sidney Clough; her sister, Dorothy Coates; brother, Kenneth Reed; and daughter-in-law, Ellen Clough, wife of son, Bob. She is survived by four children and 10 grandchildren, son, Doug and wife, Mary Ellen, and their children, Julia and husband, Gerald, and Patti and husband, Jason, and Anne; son, Bob and his children, Joshua and wife, Niti, Michael, and Stephen and wife, Janet; son, Jim and wife, Lorita, and their children, Natalie and Erik; and daughter, Ellen Darden and husband, Steve, and their children, Sydney and Wynne. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date, friends and family will be notified. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Margaret’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
