William Shelburn Clark, age 78, passed away at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital on Saturday, October 13 in Marietta, GA due to head injuries sustained from a difficult fall.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Opal Clark and a son, Ricky Shelburn Clark.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Katherine; a son Kendell and his wife Rebecca of Wilmington, NC; a daughter Angie and her twin sons Michael and Matthew Trierweiler of Alpharetta, GA; a sister Joyce Mantz of Panama City, FL; a brother Fred Clark and his wife Bonnie of Dublin, VA; and a brother Richard Clark and his wife Marfesa of Dublin, VA. He is also survived by many special cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Shelburn was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church and dearly loved his church family. He was a deacon and chairman of the Grounds and Property Committee.

He was employed by Radford Arsenal and a civilian employee of the Department of Defense as a Quality Assurance Specialist. In later years, he was an adjunct instructor at New River Community College in Dublin, VA.

His passions included being a Scout Master of Troop #242 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and working with a Christian singing group called the New Life Singers. He was a fascinating story-teller and often expressed fond memories of times such as “horse trading” with his grandfather Cox. Some of his best times were spent on land he owned at Claytor Lake which he named “Rick-Rock” in memory of his oldest son Ricky. He spent many hours with family and friends on the land relaxing, picnicking, riding horses and more. He also enjoyed playing golf at Thornspring County Club.

Shelburn and Katherine moved to Alpharetta, GA in 2007 to be close their daughter and grandsons. Seeing his grandsons grow up to be fine young men was one of his most gratifying experiences later in life.

The family would like to recognize childhood friends Gene and Marguerite Rupe; long-time friends Dickie and Judy Ratcliff; dear friend Flo Miles, who purchased their home in Fairlawn when they moved to Georgia; Dale and Beth Trierweiler of Eagle, Michigan; and Steve Jenkins, a special friend of his son Ricky.

Special thanks to Dr. Plancher, and nurses Christina and Kevin at Kennestone Hospital in GA; and Kathie at the North Fulton Hospital trauma center in GA.

Shelburn fought a good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith.

Open visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski, VA. The Graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 am at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, VA.
