Clark, James Everette

James Everette Clark, 85, of Narrows, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on September 17, 1924, and was the son of the late Albert Hare and Mabel Vaughn.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Fern Blankenship Clark; a grandson, Scott Gordon Ratcliffe; and two half sisters, Linda Martin and Claire Hamilton.

Jim served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a former employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows, and a member of American Legion Post #68 of Narrows. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda Burton Clark, of Narrows; two daughters, Anita Ratcliffe, of Pearisburg, and Tena Hughes and husband, Bobby, of Narrows; four grandchildren, Misty Eads and husband, Timothy, Derek Ratcliffe, Regina Sparks and husband, Travis, and Kevin Hughes and wife, Paulette; four greatgrandchildren, B.J. Sparks, Michael Hughes, Miranda Hughes and Shana Lucas; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2010, in the chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in the Burton Cemetery at Cedar Grove with Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Posts #68 of Narrows, #311 of Pembroke and #145 of Peterstown. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service on Thursday, April 1, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m.
