Cherry, David Lamar
David Lamar Cherry, 75, of Christiansburg, VA passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 after a long battle with inclusive body myositis. He was born in Atlanta, GA on August 9, 1949.
While serving his country as a proud member of the United States Navy, David made a trip to Pearisburg, VA with a friend where on a serendipitous fall day in 1969, he laid eyes on and fell in love with Patsy Kelly Cherry. For nearly 54 years, David was a devoted and incredibly loving husband. He never missed an opportunity to tell his wife or daughter how much he loved them. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kimberly Cherry, her husband Bryon Lane and a rambunctious Yorkie named Chipper. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Linda Bailey, Debbie Carbaugh, Gail Vaught, Jeanette Duncan, Kathy Stanley and brothers-in-law Mike Kelly and Charles Kelly. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Cherry; his brother, Joseph Cherry and his beloved golden retriever Buffy.
After completing his military service, David embarked on a fulfilling career at Virginia Tech. He retired from Virginia Tech after 34 years of working as a pressman. He never missed a chance to cheer on the Hokies.
David’s life was marked by love, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. His heart was as big as he was. He gave the best hugs. His memory will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to thank the Salem VA Medical Center, Christiansburg EMS, and Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided to David over the years. In remembrance of David’s life, please consider a small donation to The Myositis Association or your local animal shelter in his memory. All are welcome to visit with family at a time of visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025 between 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, VA.
