Charlton, George Dudley

George Dudley Charlton, 85, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Richfield Recovery and Care Center. He was born July 11, 1924, in Montgomery County, to the late Hugh and Ethel Farmer Charlton. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Fitzhugh Charlton and Garland “Brown” Charlton; and his stepmother, Lucille Spangler Charlton. George retired after 36 years from Hercules, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Thornton Charlton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Lee McCoy, Christiansburg, and Vicki and John Bartlett, Claytor Lake; three grandsons, Ross Blount and wife, Elizabeth, Charlton McCoy and wife, Brandy, Jonathan Bartlett; two greatgrandsons, Brody and Hunter Blount; a nephew, G.W. (Dubby) Charlton; and a niece, Sue Lynn Smith. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Cambria Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas G. Harvey and the Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Project Life Saver, c/o Sgt. Kevin Tucker, Christiansburg Police Department, 10 East Main Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073 or to the Cambria Baptist Church, 1310 Cambria Street, NE, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
