Ruby Hungate Chafin, 95, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013. She was born August 20, 1918 to the late Lemuel C. (Curt) and Birdie Spaulding Hungate. She was preceded in death by her husband H. Roscoe Chafin, brothers, Roy Curtis and George Henry Hungate and one sister Betty Catherine Hungate Walters.

She was a long-time member of Sidney United Methodist Church in Riner and Sidney United Methodist Women. She was a retiree of St. Albans Hospital, Radford.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard L. Phillips with whom she resided; son and daughter-in-law, R. J. (Jack) and Connie Chafin of Galax; sister-in-law, Nelsie Kupersmith of Nashville, TN; several nieces and nephews; special friends Mary Clement and Betty Williams; and her furry companions, Howie and Angel.

A deep appreciation to special caregiver, Clara (Happy) Tolbert and to Carilion Clinic Hospice Team members Tina Smusz, M.D., Sherry Reed, RN, Treasa Rigney, Kelly Sweeney, Leigh Faucolner and Chaplain David Kent.

Services will be held Thursday, September 19 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Mark Miller in the chapel of Mullins Funeral Home with private interment to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Sidney United Methodist Church, 5333 Piney Woods Rd, Riner, VA 24149.

The Chafin family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
