Chafin, Robert Winston

Robert Winston Chafin, 72, of Blacksburg, and formerly of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Sunday, February 10, 2008.

Mr. Chafin graduated from Auburn High School, Virginia Tech and retired from General Electric in Charlottesville, Va.

Preceded in death by his father, Rudell Winston Chafin, he is survived by his mother, Ileda Sowers Chafin, of Christiansburg; son, Robert Timothy Chafin, of South Carolina; granddaughter, Ashley Chafin Bond and her husband, Ricky Bond, of Christiansburg; one great granddaughter, Kelsey Paige Bond; and sister, Gayle Chafin Hall, of Shawsville, Va. He is also survived by his niece and her husband, Melissa and Russell (Russ) Good, of Maryland; aunts ,Thelma Teel, of Christiansburg, and Nelsie Kupersmith, of Tennessee; great-nephews, Griffin Hall Good and Cameron Russell Good, of Maryland; special friends, Bobby Handy and Steve Hall; and many special cousins also survive him.

Memorial services will be private, held in the Family Gathering Room at the Horne Funeral Home with the Reverend Gleasanna Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, Financial Management Branch, Building 31, Room 8A34, 31 Center Drive, MSC 2540, Bethesda, Md. 20892-2540.
