cecil julia fergusonJulia Marie Ferguson Cecil went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, November 11, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. Mrs. Cecil was born on January 13, 1923, in Dickson, Tenn., and was a daughter of the late Fred Fisher Ferguson and Sarah Lee Stenson Ferguson.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Byrnes Cecil Jr.; and three sisters, Sue Pounds, June Burns and Joyce Knight.

Mrs. Cecil was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg. After completing her training as a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., she served as an Ensign in the United States Navy Nurse Corps during World War II. After her marriage to Dr. William Cecil, they moved to Pearisburg in 1955, where they raised their four sons and enjoyed being part of the community.

She is survived by four sons, William Byrnes Cecil III and wife, Sissy, of Deland, Fla., John J. Cecil and wife, Jane, of Pikeville, Ky., Fred F. Cecil and wife, Karen, of Christiansburg, Tony Cecil and wife, Sharon, of Pearisburg; five grandchildren, Laura Marie Cecil, Emily Cecil, Taylor Cecil, Ben Peters, Will Cecil; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shirley Larson officiating with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Flowers are appreciated, but donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation and a special thanks to the staff of Riverview Nursing Home for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Cecil.
