Cleveland Carter, 94, of Goldbond on Big Stony Creek in Giles Co. passed away Monday August 14, 2006 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, VA. Born on November 2, 1911, at Kerns on Big Stony Creek, he was a son of the late Charlie Floyd and Anna Farley Carter.

He was a retired miner with the National Gypsum Company at Goldbond. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pansy Lucas Carter, two sons Walter (Sonny) Carter and Weldon ( Johnny) Carter, four brothers Albert, Floyd, Clarence, and Ira Carter, four sisters Nora Reed, Lou Snider, Lilly Castle, and Fannie Altizer.

He leaves to cherish his memory sons William “Buddy” and wife Ann Marie Carter of Hereford, PA , Donald (Bob) Carter of Princeton, WV, Johnny Ray Williams of Christiansburg; daughters Eula Mae Williams of Pearisburg, Theida Mae and husband Garnett Darnell of Big Stony Creek, Nona Gail and husband Jon Oakes of Big Stony Creek; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Helen C. Kast of Salem.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
