Karen Sue Carson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world suddenly on April 25, 2022, at the young age of 66.

She was born on January 13, 1956. Growing up in her teen years in Hollywood California, Karen met her first husband, Joseph Sirgy. Together, they had three children, Melissa, Danielle, and Michelle. Building her home in Blacksburg Virginia, Karen spent her professional time as an administrative assistant in the 80’s at the Department of Education at Virginia Tech. Karen also enjoyed staying active at the fitness club, and her passion was donating her time to the local Food Bank and helping to feed the hungry and homeless.

Karen devoted her time to being a homemaker and caretaker for her family. She had a love for gardening, sunsets, and bird watching. In the mid 90’s Karen had a second chance at love and married the love of her life, Eugene Carson. Karen and Gene traveled the world together, became “snowbirds” in St. Pete Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed watching the sunsets, building their second home, and making many joyful memories. Those who knew Karen would say, “she never met a stranger.” We are reminded of her kindness and warm personality. Karen loved the community in St. Pete Beach and considered many of the waitstaff at her favorite dining establishments as her local “family.” We are all deeply saddened by our loss of Karen.

She leaves behind husband, Eugene Carson; daughters, Melissa Racklin (Anton), Danielle Barrick (John), and Michelle Sirgy; brothers, Jerry Garrett and Steve Cornett; sisters, Vickie Cornett, Cindy Quallich, and Rebecca Doss; grandchildren, Isabella Rosato, Alexander Rosato, Jake Racklin, angel baby Luke Racklin, Zack Racklin, Scott Gray, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends. Nothing gave Karen greater joy than being with her grandchildren. She recently talked about seeing angels, and now she is one of them. We will miss her dearly.

A memorial service with a celebration of life will be held 5 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at Beach Memorial Chapel, 301 Corey Avenue, St. Pete Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ronald McDonald House on her behalf.
