Charlie Edward (Buster) Carroll, 59, of McCoy was taken home to heaven for Jesus’ healing, Friday, August 18, 2006, at Montgomery Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Roanoke, Va. on May 11, 1947. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Agee (Marshall Carroll), sister Charlotte Thurman (Charlotte Carroll), foster fathers, Aubrey McCoy and Arnold McCoy.

He was employed with the Electric Service at Virginia Tech with 32 years of service. Buster was a proud member of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. Buster loved to work in his vegetable garden and got a lot of pleasure giving most of it away to family and friends. He also loved NASCAR, especially pulling for #24, Jeff Gordon.

Buster is survived by his wife, Vickie Flinchum Carroll of McCoy; daughter and son-in-law, Laura C. and Frank Kregloe of Belspring; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick E. and Michelle Carroll; beloved grandson, Zachary C. Carroll, all of Riner; foster mothers, Josephine (Jo) McCoy of Bedford, Lourine McCoy of McCoy; foster sisters, Anita Zwolinsky of McCoy, Kathy McCoy of Bedford; foster brothers, Andy McCoy of Christiansburg, Todd McCoy, Larry McCoy, both of McCoy; nephew, Michael Agee, Jr.; and also survived by many dear friends and co-workers.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Community Christian Church, Centennial Road, McCoy, with Mr. James O. Flaugher and Mr. Bobby E. Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in the McCoy Family Cemetery, McCoy. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Sunday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
