Carroll, Belinda Stone

Belinda Stone Carroll passed away at home March 21, 2017 after a three year battle with ovarian cancer.

Belinda was born to Roger Stone and Betty Tackett Stone in Newark, Ohio before ultimately settling in Chesterfield, Va. After graduating from Thomas Dale High School in Chester, she earned a B.S. in Forestry from Virginia Tech. She furthered her education once in Blacksburg, completing her Master’s Degree from the College of Agriculture. She worked in the Department of Entomology and the communications office in the College of Agriculture.

Our admiration for Belinda grew each day as she endured demanding treatments and procedures with grace and dignity, and even during times of significant discomfort, she placed serving others above all else. Belinda was known for her love of the outdoors, but also enjoyed time at home with family, pets, and garden.

In addition to her husband Dave and son Ben (Blacksburg), Belinda is survived by her parents Roger and Betty Stone (Chesterfield, Va.); sister Doreen (Chester, Va.); brothers TR (Richmond, Va.) and David (Midlothian, Va.).

A memorial celebration of Belinda’s life will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Blacksburg Country Club (light food and drink served, casual dress). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment (cnre.vt.edu) where our lives came together; The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (appalachiantrail.org) where she spent so many wonderful days; The West Virginia Highlands Conservancy (wvhighlands.org) preserving her beloved mountains.
