Canada, Danny Ray

Danny (Dan) Ray Canada, age 73, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away after a lengthy battle with heart disease. He was at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. His faithful and loving wife Vickie was by his side throughout this journey and during his passing.

Dan graduated from Pikeville High School in 1970 and attended Marshall University on a football scholarship. Dan was a freshman and not allowed to travel when the Marshall University Football team perished in a plane crash on November 14, 1970. Dan graduated with a double major and degree in education from Marshall in 1974 and is now a lifetime member of the M-Club. Dan worked in heavy equipment sales and service for 10 years before joining Marshall Concrete products in 1984. He became a part owner in 1992 and served as vice president for over 30 years. Dan was a member of the Virginia Maintenance Council, member of National Ready Mix Concrete Association and member of the Ready Mix Safety Task Force Committee.

Dan was an active member of the Christiansburg community from 1979. He was a member of the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club where he held a 39-year membership and was a past president. Dan was the chairman of the annual Kiwanis Carnival which was the largest fund raiser for the club. Dan served the Christiansburg Town Council for two years and was on the Christiansburg Planning Commission for eight years with four of them as chairman. Dan was also a member of the Christiansburg Hunt Club, the card club, and the morning coffee club. He was a benefactor of Virginia Tech and a member of the Ut Prosim Society. He was an avid gentleman racer, instructor, and member of the Porsche Club of America.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sheppard; father, Luther Canada; and brother Archie Kennedy. Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vickie; his son, Scott and wife Lorie; granddaughters, Samantha Canada, Danielle Wolfe and husband Harvey; great-granddaughters, Aimsley, Berkley, Scarlett, Noah Grace, Bailey, Caleb, Riker; two sisters, Deborah Thompson and Kimberly Fitch; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; a host of special friends; his longtime friend and pastor Neal Turner who led Dan to Jesus Christ. Dan was proud of his Faith Walk.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Cleveland Clinic for their care and compassion. Also special thank you to a very special friend who provided transportation to Cleveland.

Dan will be missed by the many friends and acquaintances he made through work, his community efforts, and his generosity for others.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Neal Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Virginia. The family will have a visitation Monday, February 24, 2025, which is Dan’s birthday, from 4-8:00 PM at McCoy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude, Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg, or your charity of choice.
