Campbell, Walter Robert

Walter Robert Campbell, 85, formerly of Pembroke, Va., departed this life on Sunday morning, December 21, 2008, at a Tampa, Fla., hospital. Born in Monroe, Va., on May 3, 1923, he was a son of the late Harvey and Alice Campbell.

Walter was a veteran of the United States Army in World War II, was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway with 33 years service, retiring as a sales manager, and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Anna Katherine Snidow Campbell, daughter of the late Grover G. and Margaret Ann Givens Snidow, of Pembroke; his son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Debra Campbell, of Lenox, Ga.; his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Skip Stradtman, of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, Lloyd Campbell; his sisters, Eunice Ware, and Frances O’Dell; his grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, and Kristi; and four great-grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Roma S. Collins, Margaret Gertrude S. Williams, both of Pembroke, and Mary S. Bales, of Pearisburg.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008, in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends after the services in Birchlawn Abbey.
