Phyllis Ann Burton Campbell, 86, of Hollybrook, VA, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, May 24, 2019.

She was born, raised, and lived out her days on the Burton homestead, her family’s multi-generational farm. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother. It was guaranteed that anyone who visited “MawMaw” would leave with a smile, a hug and a full belly – on a lucky day after having her heavenly banana pudding! She was a caregiver, sweet-natured, and always a hard worker.

In addition to raising a family and working on the farm, she retired from Klopman Mills. She was a lifetime member and trustee of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7969, also serving as historian. She loved hearing community goings-on through friends on her always-ringing house phone, and had a foot in the digital age, too, playing grandpad bingo and facetiming with her great-granddaughter daily. She loved painting her coloring book prints, working word find puzzles, shopping, and polka music. But by far, her favorite pastime was cooking for and sharing meals with her family.

In addition to her parents, Frederick Hash Burton and Ethel Iola DeHart Burton, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Campbell; two brothers, Buford Allen Burton and William Jeff Burton; stepmother, Clara Kidd Burton; son-in-law, Jerry David Wright; and grandson, Jonathan Kenny Wright.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Glenda (Kenny) Wright, Anita (David) Melvin, and Charlotte Wright; grandchildren, Heather (Ian) Wright Williams, Tonya Wright and friend Monica Perkins, Darrell Wright, and Pamela Wright; great-grandson, Hunter Wright; and a very special great-granddaughter, Clara Williams, who brought so much love, laughter and joy to her life.

Special extended family includes: Bridget (Perry) Mabe, Brittany Allen, Karen (Stuart) Bobbitt, Brandon and Shannon Cressel, DJ (Heather) and Sawyer Wright, Will Kaltenburg, Caleb Perkins, Jon (Leslie) and Zach Melvin, special sister-in-law and friend Annette Burton, Billy and Debbie Burton and families, sister-in-law Ethel Lee Burton, and special pet friends, Duke, Scout, Finn, and Shadow, who visited regularly. Special friends who will miss her dearly include Verna Carver, Dimple Faulkner, Janet Wright and too many others to list.

Special thank you to Hospice of Southwest Virginia for their support and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital Tribute Program, stjude.org, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38101-9908.

A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, March 26, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with Chaplain John Smith and Josh May officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.
