Garland E. (Bud) Calhoun, Jr. passed away on Sunday evening, December 30, following a brief illness. Bud, or Buddy, as he was also known, was born in Roanoke, Virginia on January 29, 1927 to the late G.E. Calhoun, Sr. and Lorena Creasy Calhoun.

He was educated at Our Lady of Nazareth School in Roanoke and St. Mary’s College in Baltimore, Md. In 1950, he met Nancy Rose Layton of Latrobe, Pennsylvania and lured her to Virginia, where they made their home in Roanoke, Clifton Forge and Pulaski. Bud was successively employed by Rowe Furniture in Salem, the Pantasote Corporation in Clifton Forge and retired as Plant Engineer from Pulaski Furniture in 1992. He and Nancy celebrated their 50th anniversary in August of 2001. Bud was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg.

In addition to Nancy, he is survived by four children, Garland E. “Garry” Calhoun III, of Roanoke and his wife, Teresa, Colleen C. Dillard of Amelia County and her husband, Gary, Constance E. Rose of Hillsboro, West Virginia and her husband, James, and Carol C. Withers of Elliston and her husband, Matthew. Bud also leaves seven grandchildren, Kayleigh Joy Calhoun of Roanoke, Jessica C. Dillard of Amelia County, John G. Dillard of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jennifer N. Rose, Jillian E. Rose, Eric J. Rose, and Evan E. Rose, all of Hillsboro, West Virginia.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m., celebrated by Father James Arsenault. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. SW Blacksburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the building fund at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 706 Harding Ave. Blacksburg , Va. 24060.
