Thermelia Gale “Terri” Calfee departed this earthly life and was called to receive her angel wings on, Friday October 22, 2021 at 6:58 am. She was born on November 20, 1956 to Rosa and Fred Calfee of Radford, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her father Fred Calfee Jr., brother Tony Calfee, and her Great Grandfather Rev. Marion “Spider” Lee. 

She was a graduate of Radford High School class of 1974 where she began her interest in nursing.  Terri placed her career on hold to raise her six children and worked avidly in the church, before returning to nursing school to fulfill her dream of one day becoming a nurse. Due to her kind, loving, and healing spirit, Terri furthered her education. She attended College of Health of Science and later earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from ECPI in 2010.  She spent over 30 years in nursing, most of her career at Our Lady of the Valley, Friendship Manor, Woodhaven Nursing Home, Blue Ridge Behavioral Health, Richfield Retirement, Home Instead, Nurse Finders and many other medical facilities throughout the Roanoke Valley.

She became a member of Holiness Tabernacle COGIC in Roanoke, Virginia in the mid 1970’s. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and Hospitality Aide as well as a talented pianist and pipe organist for the church choir. She also made the best homemade rolls ever.

Those left behind to continue her legacy are her most precious daughters, Kristen Calfee of Roanoke, Virginia, Keturah (Raymond) Hill of Dallas, Texas, Kara Jones of Fort Mill, SC, Kamille (Leonard) Smith of Roanoke Va, Kendra Calfee of Roanoke and Khaia Calfee of Houston, Texas and 11 grandchildren. Mother Rosa Powell of Floyd, Virginia, three sisters, Dr. Tammy Calfee of Radford, VA, Theresa Sherman of Dixie Caverns, VA, Connie (Wolfred) Basham of Troutville, Virginia, and one brother Theron G. Calfee of Macon, Georgia.She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends Charlie Carter, Angel Hernandez, Jonathan Garcia and Diane Green.

Terri had a special light in her that touched the lives of so many including her patients and any stranger she met off the street. Terri always welcomed everyone with opened arms no matter what. Her heartwarming smile, her strong courageous heart, her wisdom and most of all, her presence will be greatly and deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 12Noon at Serenity Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be held in Sunrise Burial Park, Radford, VA.
