Robert Milton (Bobby) Caldwell, 77, of East Radford, expired and passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at home with his family by his side. He was born May 17, 1937 in New Altamont Hospital, Christiansburg. Bobby was brought up and lived in East Radford all his life, attended McGuffey Elementary, Belle Heth Elementary, Radford High School and VA Tech. He enjoyed hunting coons, rabbits, birds, riding horses, the Radford Fire Department and the Wednesday Night Garden Club in his early years. In later years, Claytor Lake, five o’clock, NASCAR, Hokie Sports, country-gospel music, being with family and friends and a faithful dog by his side were his passions. He was of the protestant faith. Bobby worked in the automobile business and enjoyed over 51 years of dedicated service with Harvey Chevrolet Corp. where he enjoyed many friendships throughout the years. He participated in local and national organizations and boards.
Bobby’s life path was, “It is better to give than to receive and a person’s word is their bond.”

Gone ahead and waiting at home are his father and mother, Frank Yingling Caldwell and Pauline Perfater Caldwell, sibling, Frank Yingling Caldwell, Jr., grandparents, Milton M. and Carrie Yingling Caldwell, and Adam Taylor and Dora Sifford Perfater, uncles, Paul Caldwell, Charlie Mendez, Raymond Lee, Boyd Perfater, Marvin Perfater and Harry Perfater; aunts, Lorena Lee, Katherine Mendez, Clara Caldwell, Florence Perfater, Nan Perfater and Elsie Perfater.

Left behind with cherished memories are his first wife and best friend of 48 years (married July 31, 1965), Pauline Slusher (Polly) Caldwell; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey L (Jeff) Caldwell and Anna R. Caldwell of Radford; grandchildren, Lindsay Elise Caldwell and Robert Mason Caldwell; step grandchildren, Tori, Addison and Tanner; sibling and sister-in-law, William Perfater Caldwell and Joanna Cox Caldwell of Daleville; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and spouses, brothers-in-law and spouses, and cousins who he loved dearly; and a host of loyal dedicated friends who he cherished and appreciated. Bobby notes special appreciation to the Slusher family (kin folk by marriage) for being good and true to him throughout the years.

Bobby was cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Jody Kitts officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the time of the service. Final resting will be in the Caldwell Family Cemetery, Sixth Ave, East Radford.
