Caldwell, Marvin Lee “Curley”
Marvin Lee “Curley” Caldwell, 80, of Cascade Drive in Pembroke, departed this life on Monday morning, September 10, 2012 at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Pembroke on March 23, 1932, he was a son of the late James Lee and Annie Neil Hilton Caldwell.
He was proud to have retired from a career in the U S Army that spanned twenty-six years and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He also retired from RAAP and as young man had worked for Cumbee’s Store in Pembroke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harvey Caldwell. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of sixty years Mildred Jean Bowles Caldwell; his daughters Betty Anne Spears of Pembroke and Katherine Caldwell of Dublin; his grandchildren Jason Daniel Hale and his finance, Mandie of Ft. Campbell, KY, Joshua Logan Hale of Painter, and Amy Spears Lucas and husband Jeremy of Christiansburg; his great-grandson Elijah Colton Lucas; his sisters Stella C. Kast of Pearisburg, Marcella C. Williams of Pembroke, Elsie C. Higgs of Pearisburg, Brenda C. Carbaugh and her husband Calvin of Pembroke.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Rob Lough and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with military services conducted by VFW Post No 6000 in Narrows, American Legion Post 311 in Pembroke, Post 68 in Narrows, and Post 145 in Peterstown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made in Marvin’s name to the charity of your choice.
