Caldwell, Elsie Marie Huffman

Elsie Marie Huffman Caldwell, 71, of Laurel Creek Road in Craig Co. entered the gates of heaven on Saturday, March 17, 2007 from Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg.

She was born on January 31, 1936 in Craig County to the late Minor and Maude Bradley Huffman. She was also preceded in death by her husband Payne, and two brothers, Richard and Alfred Huffman of Craig Co.

Elsie was employed at Virginia Tech for twenty-five years and retired in 1998. She was also a lifetime member of the Level Green Christian Church at Newport. She was a wonderful, caring mother, grandmother and neighbor. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and loving heart. She loved to sit at her window with her little dog Sofie, look over the family farm, watch her birds, and look at her flowers. Dahalias were her favorite.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, son Caryie and Linda Caldwell of Newport, daughter Luarlene Caldwell and Larry Martin of Pembroke, son Dale Caldwell and Pam Welch of Buchanan, Va., son Greg Caldwell of Newport; two very special grandsons, Jason and Jeremy Caldwell of Newport; two brothers, Kenny Huffman of New Castle, Oscar Huffman and wife, Mary of Pearisburg; very dear friend, Janice Furrow of Newport; and not to forget her two “special” boys, Danny Savage and Jesse Hudson.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in The Level Green Christian Church in Craig County with Pastor Mike Whittaker, who became a dear and close friend during her illness, officiating. Burial will follow in The Williams Cemetery at Level Green.
