caldwell_denny_rDenny R. Caldwell, of Blacksburg, Va., was born on July 31, 1922, and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. He was 87. Mr. Caldwell was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the 495th 12th Armored Tank Battalion and was a proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He later owned and operated his own plumbing business for many years. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Roxie Caldwell; wife of 57 years, Maude Hazel Caldwell; children, Rodney, Rosemary, and Audie Dale; brother, Irvin Caldwell; and sister, Dorothy Wilhelm. His surviving family includes his son, Delmas Caldwell and wife, Grace; daughters, Donna Palmer and husband, Harold, Wanda Caldwell, Linda Bandy and husband, Lake, and Janet Baysden and husband, Michael; sister, Lois Dobyns; grandchildren, Cathy Wingfield and husband, Larry, Kevin and Daniel Bandy, and Tammy Dollman and husband, Robert; great-grandchildren, Eugene and Blake Lane, and Madyson Dollman; honorary grandchildren, Richard Turman, Matthew Booth, and Katie Howell; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sandy Jones, Ashley Spradlin, and many more. A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010, in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will then take place at the Holloway Family Cemetery in Montgomery County at 1:30 p.m. Online condolences to the family may be made at johnmoakey.com.
