Joe Fielding Cahill, age 88, of Peterstown, WV, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, WV. Born December 18, 1929, at Peterstown, WV, he was the son of the late Joseph and Vivian Mays Cahill.

Joe graduated from Peterstown High School in 1947 and attended Greer refrigeration school in Chicago, IL. Upon graduation, he worked in the air conditioning department at the Celanese plant in Narrows, VA. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1951 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Joe would then return to the Celanese plant for 7 years before embarking on a 27-year career with the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier in Peterstown, where he retired in November of 1988.

Joe and his wife of 60 years, Joan, spent 17 winters in Florida. Being an only child, he loved his three children, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He loved cars and traveling, including trips to Alaska, Mexico, Nova Scotia, and California. He rode on several trips with his son, Jan, on their motorcycles. His last motorcycle ride was on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Boone, NC, at the age of 86. Also, he loved westerns, Lawrence Welk, football, Yahtzee, and was a master croquet player.

Joe was a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the John Dove Lodge #78 AF&AM, Peterstown, WV.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years, Joan Broyles Cahill; son, Tony R. Cahill of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Tammy Cahill Viti and husband Dr. Anthony Viti of White Post, VA; son Jan. L. Cahill and wife Selina of Lewisburg, WV; four grandchildren, Samantha Cahill Wilson and husband Dr. Ryan Wilson and Haley Cahill and fiancé Chris Teubert, all of Lewisburg, WV, Katherine and Mark Viti of White Post, VA; and one special great grandson, Brice Wilson of Lewisburg, WV.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Barry Harper officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Broyles Cemetery in Lindside, WV. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the funeral home.
