byrd_geneva_lavadaMrs. Geneva Lavada Jackson Byrd, 88, went home to be with our lord, Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was born to Clint S. Jackson and Nora Alice Jackson January 21, 1926, both deceased. She was raised on Brush Creek in Grayson County, VA. She loved to reminisce of days with her daddy growing up on the farm, fishing with her hands, and driving a school bus in Ivanhoe. She was a social butterfly who never met a stranger, loved to play the piano, and always wore a smile no matter the ailment. She was a proud two time breast cancer survivor and advocate for the cause. As of late, she was most happy spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and she had been blessed last fall with the birth of her first great grand child. She is preceded in death by her husband Wendell Lincoln Byrd. She is survived by two loving daughters Mary Alice Byrd White (Mark) of Germanton, NC; Sarah Elizabeth Byrd Tran (Tom) of Winston-Salem, NC. Two grand children Savanna Marie White Yount (Justin) of Walnut Cove, NC; and Matthew Kyle White (Morgan) of Germanton, NC. And a great granddaughter Ava Preslie Yount. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 pm Friday, March 14, 2014 at Cold Springs United Methodist Church with the funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. Pastor Bobbie Dunford and Reverend Ted Anders officiating. Burial will follow in the Cold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or the Susan G. Komen foundation.
