Buzard, Vernie Shelton

Vernie Shelton Buzard, 89, of Wheatland Hills Retirement Center in Radford, Va., died on Tuesday morning, November 13, 2007 in Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.

She was born November 26, 1917 in Gate City, Va. and was the daughter of the late Fannie Culbertson Wolfe and Jesse Ewell Wolfe. She was a retired LPN from Radford Community Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Radford and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Radford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse J. Shelton; her second husband, the Rev. Paul D. Buzard; 11 siblings; and a granddaughter, Molly Shelton Countiss. She is survived by three sons, Thomas Wolfe (Tom) Shelton of Pulaski, Francis (Fran) W. Shelton of Radford and Jesse J. Shelton of Kingsport, Tenn.; one daughter, Linda S. Stapleton of Erwin, Tenn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Radford, 215 Third Ave., with Dr. Paul Lane officiating. Interment will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Va.

Visiting will be held on Thursday at the First Baptist Church from 1 until 3 p.m. service time.
