Michael A. Butler, age 52, of Bozoo, left this precious life on March 10, 2022, to join the Lord, his parents, and his stepson Ben Thornton. Born March 3, 1970, he was the son of the late Donald R. Butler and Nancy Carol Butler.

Michael was affectionally called Mike and his family called him “Uncle Buck”. He was an employee of the WV Department of Highways, with 20 years of devoted service. He mowed lawns on the side with his company, “Hillbilly Mowing”. Mike loved NASCAR, riding his side by side, and had a heart for playing Santa. Mike had a passion for life and he lived it and laughed it to the fullest. To know Mike was to love him.

Although his battle with cancer was long, Mike continued to be strong and make everyone laugh, and was always putting others first.

Survivors include one brother, Ronald Butler and wife Stephanie of Narrows, VA; two sisters, Donna Moulder and husband Michael of Princeton, WV, and Michelle Via and husband Ricky of Bozoo, WV; his beloved girlfriend, Olivia Scott, who he treasured and adored along with her two children, Mallie and Max. Also surviving are three nieces, Jennifer Moore and husband Jay of Princeton, WV, Amber Mooney and husband Joe of Princeton, WV, and Kayla Via of Bozoo, WV; three nephews, Jonathan Butler and Katasha Davis of Narrows, VA, Joshua Butler and wife Taylor of Narrows, VA, and Joseph Butler and wife Tylish of Fredricksburg, VA; five great nieces, Jessie Bowling, Maggie Mooney, Gracelyn Butler, Lainey Stables, and Ella Mae Butler; three great nephews, Jimmy Bowling, Trypp Mooney, and Braxton Butler; stepchildren that he loved like his own, Nick Thornton and Maria Robertson; a host of special friends including, “Big Block” Jimmy Canterbury, “440” Dave Thornton, Dale, Tammy, and Brandon Dowdy, Angie and Trevin Thornton and her parents Anthony and Diane Jenkins; and lastly, his girls from the class of ’89.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Michael Moulder officiating and Darrell Mann. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Bozoo, WV, with Jonathan Butler, Joshua Butler, Joseph Butler, Wayne Sparks, Brian Jackson, and Keith Christian serving as pallbearers. Brandale Stewart and Eric Reed will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Cancer Kids and Christmas, 1815 Old Wolf Creek Road, Narrows, VA 24124.
