Burton, Cindy Hunter

Cindy Hunter Burton, of Blacksburg, daughter of Julia Hunter and the late Laymon Hunter, was born April 4,1961 in Baltimore MD. Cindy peacefully departed this life on Friday, July 31, 2015, in Blacksburg VA.

Cindy received her education in Baltimore City Schools, after which she entered the Navy where she served for 20 years, plus one day. As Cindy would often say, “the one day was very important- I gave a little extra”. After retiring from the Navy, Cindy worked as an Explosive Safety Specialist with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Cindy is survived by her devoted husband, Desmond Burton and loving children, Jahmal and Natashia Burton; mother, Julia Hunter; brothers Paul, Barry (Sheree),Keith, and Craig Hunter; nephews Paris, Andrew, Okelo; niece Felicia and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Cindy’s father, Laymon Hunter, preceded her in death.

Services will be held Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel.
