Burton, Bane

Bane Burton, 84, of the Sugar Run Community near Pearisburg passed away August 18, 2007 at Giles Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Bland County, Va. on June 5, 1923 the son of the late Arland and Callie Sarver Burton. He was retired from the U. S. Forest Service, was a member of Thessalia United Methodist Church and a member of Wabash Lodge #189, I.O.O.F.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Georgie Hoback Burton. He was preceded in death by one son, Ernest Burton. Surviving are two sons, William (Bill) Burton, Waynesville, MO, John Burton, Kemah, TX and friend Ramona Kaston, Houston, TX; three daughters, Frances Breedlove-Croy (Dick), Pembroke, Va., Judy Scherer (John), Winston, Ga., Sandy Karickhoff (Steve), Hannibal, MO. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Tommy Burton, Waynesville, MO, Linda Hammonds, Waynesville, MO, Kimberly Langford, Tallahassee, FL, Adam Burton, Pearisburg, VA, Joseph Robinson, Moncks Corner, S.C., Ashley Karickhoff, Hannibal, MO and Jarrod Burton, Pearisburg, VA. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, A. D. Burton, Jr., Bland, Va. and Thomas Burton, Roanoke, Va.; three sisters, Mable French, Eileen Dunavant both of Roanoke, Va. and Wanda Duncan, Salem, Va. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Visitation will be Monday, August 20, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Thessalia United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Paula Campbell officiating. Eulogy will be given by Charles Henderson. Entombment service will be at Birchlawn Abby, Pearisburg on Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Wabash Lodge #189, I.O.O.F.
