Burnette, Thomas James

Thomas James Burnette, 78, of Pulaski, died late on Saturday night, February 11, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital of Pulaski. He was born in Fieldale, Va. He was the son of the late Ophus Jackson Burnette and Olivia Slaughter Burnette.

Mr. Burnette was a retired Lieutenant for the Town of Pulaski Police Department. He served the town from October 1969 to March 1992. He was also a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances Branscome Burnette; his parents, Ophus Jackson and Olivia Slaughter Burnette; and one sister, Pansy Marie Burnette Morris. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va., with Military Honors. Visiting will be held on Tuesday evening, February 14, 2012, at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
