Burke Sr., Mancel Lee

Mancel Lee Burke Sr., 77, of Dublin, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the New River Valley Medical Center. Born January 29, 1931, in Russell County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Willie Carson “W.C.” Burke. Sr. and Dana Sayles Burke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Havens Burke in 2006, and two sons, Mancel Lee Burke Jr. and Terry Lynn Burke.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Frank Woollums, of Christiansburg, Carolyn St. Clair, of Christiansburg, and Brenda and Preston Ratcliffe, of Pulaski; his sons, Curtis Burke, of Christiansburg, Michael (Mickey) Thomas, of Dublin and Phillip Burke, of Pulaski; 12 grandchildren, Kayla, Amanda, Jeffrey, Cory, Michael, James Lee, Markie, Marissa, Kandy, Hunter, Garrison and Brady; several great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Kate Christian, Eva J. Tolbert, and Imogene McPeak, all of Dublin.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with a private memorial service for the immediate family to follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Clayton Quesenberry and the Rev. J. C. McPeak officiating.
