Burke, Mildred Stevenson

Mildred Stevenson Burke, 90, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, February 12, 2011. The daughter to the late Joseph Luther Stevenson and Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Chafin Stevenson, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Burke, son, Joseph Wayne Burke, sister, Shirleen Chafin Cook, brother, Luther Cecil Stevenson, sister-in-law, Ocie Stevenson and brother-in-law, Walter Hartman. She is survived by her son, Ronald Lee Burke and his wife, Eldean; daughter, Linda Harper and her husband, Jerry; grandson, Shane D. Harper; stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Brenda and Jack Roop, Elaine and Benny Snuffer, Randy and Becky Thornton and Darrell and Annette Thornton; sister, Fern Hartman; brother, William (Billy) Broce; sister-in-law, Edna Murphy; special caregivers for seven years, “Phyllis Bessler” and “Goldie Caughron”. Many nieces and nephews also survive. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital for the care provided. The family will receive friends at The Horne Funeral Home Monday, February 14, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Copeland, the Rev. Douglas Kanney, the Rev. Jerry Shepherd and the Rev. Ronald Burke officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
