James Franklin Burke, 87, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010. He was born on October 23, 1923, in Lowell, Mass., to Francis Joseph Burke and Millicent Boot Burke. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Hutcheson Warriner Burke. Surviving are his three daughters, Molly Warriner Dodson and husband, Roy, of Blacksburg, Nancy Anne Burke, of Blacksburg, and Elizabeth Burke Daley and husband, Thomas, of Richmond. He is also survived by granddaughters, Kimberly Dodson Hubbard (Keith), of Raleigh, N.C., Melissa Dodson Vandenberg (Tyler), of Charlotte, N.C.; one grandson, Thomas Burke Daley, of Richmond; and four greatgrandchildren, Allison and Nathan Hubbard and Jack and Micah Vandenberg. He is also survived by one sister, Ellen Burke Ries, of Kalispell, Mont., and Richard Burke, of McLean. He graduated from N.C. State University and worked many years in the furniture industry. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blacksburg on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Mike Ellerbrock officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St. NE, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
