Mary Rebecca Morrison Buckland, 90, went to eternal rest Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, Virginia. She was born February 26, 1915 at Rich Creek, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Cecil Morrison.

She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church at Rich Creek, a member of Lakeland Chapter #74 O.E.S. Narrows, Virginia and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6000 Narrows, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman B. “Pete” Buckland, a daughter, Betty Elizabeth Buckland, sisters Geneva Defio, Bernice Woods, Mae Candler and Dorothy Thornton, brothers Paul, Walter and Benjamin F. Morrison and two sons-in-law, William Alfred Cook and Russell Allen Ratcliffe.

Surviving are three sons, Sherman M. “Sonny” Buckland and wife Linda, David W. Buckland and wife Ann, and James B. “J.B.” Buckland and wife Barbara, all of Rich Creek, Virginia; two daughters, Shirley B. Cook of Roanoke, Virginia and Scarlet B. Ratcliffe of Pearisburg, Virginia; two sisters, Hazel Williams of Atlanta, Georgia and Pauline “Polly” Fox of Ansted, W.Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Peterstown Cemetery, with Rev. James Pickett officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family will receive friends and loved ones at other times at the home of Sonny Buckland, 178 Buckland Lane at Midway in Rich Creek, Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peterstown Cemetery or to the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek, Virginia. Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.
