Buckland, Donald A. “Corky”

Donald A. “Corky” Buckland, 88, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018, at his beloved home on his farm in Ballard, WV. He was born May 8, 1929 and was the son of the late Neal and Barcie Buckland.

Corky was retired from Appalachian Electric Power Company at Glen Lynn, VA, with 40 years of service. He was a member of the John Dove Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. As a member of the Peterstown Rotary Club, he helped organize the annual horse show in which he participated as an avid horseman. He owned and showed Tennessee Walking Horses at local shows throughout his adult life. Corky enjoyed and supported youth sports. He coached and volunteered numerous hours on the Peterstown Little League Field and the H.E. Comer Sports Complex.

Corky was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 69 years, Loretta; a great grandson, Chandler D. Brown; two brothers, Theodore and Clinton Buckland; two sisters, Lucille Windley and Marie Tuggle. He is survived by one sister, Mary Ellen Guynn of Narrows, VA, three children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Two sons, Gerald Buckland and wife Connie Canode of Boones Mill, VA, grandson, Brett Buckland of Charlotte, NC, and Donnie Buckland and wife Nancy of North Augusta, SC, granddaughters, Christy Morgan and husband Todd of Charlottesville, VA, great grandsons, Eli and Owen, and Jenny Grimes and husband Trevor of Fredericksburg, VA; one daughter, Donetta Brown and husband Ronnie of Bozoo, WV, grandsons, Chad Brown and wife Aaren, great grandsons, Conner, Jacob, and Peyton, all of Clemmons, NC, and Rod Brown and wife Sherry, great grandson, Ryker, and great granddaughter, Cara, all of Peterstown, WV, and granddaughter Tiffany Yancey and husband Boomer, and great grandson Kaden, all of Lindside, WV.

Special appreciation is extended by the family to caregivers Nancy Ford, Barbara Meadows, Shawnitta Huffman, Katie Miller, Chylin Huffman, Cara Altice, and the Kanawha Hospice Staff.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Joe Spencer and Pastor Bryan Pruett officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites by John Dove Lodge #78 AF&AM, will follow at Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, WV. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church, P.O.
