Buchanan, Laura Elizabeth Calfee

Laura Elizabeth Calfee Buchanan, 82, of Pulaski, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 20, 2010. She was born in Pulaski June 8, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Wyatt and Charity Calfee. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jentery Buchanan; and a son-in-law, Henry Sayers. Laura attended the First Baptist Church, Pulaski, where she taught Sunday School and was Chairperson of the Junior Department as well as being active in the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a cashier at Pulaski Theater for many years, and in her later years attended New River Community College and became a LPN. She nursed at Pulaski Hospital and Pulaski Community Hospital for many years and was fondly remembered by patients and staff for her kindness and compassion. Her favorite pastimes were reading, working crossword puzzles and crotchet. She leaves behind many beautiful pieces including afghans, table cloths, doilies, pillows and a wonderful collection of dolls. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Highland Ridge Rehabilitation for the love and concern they showed Laura while she was there. Surviving her are sons and daughter-in-law, Samuel Buchanan, of Pulaski, Stephen and Gayle Buchanan, of Pulaski; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Sayers, of Draper, Rebecca and Charles Jackson, of Dallas, Texas, Rometta and Curtis Carrico, of Dublin, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held noon Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from Stevens Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Tuesday from the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service hour. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
