amem_evening.jpgPearl Skeens Broyles, 99, of Narrows, lovingly known by her family as Granny Pearl, departed this life to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Glen Lyn, Va. on August 8, 1907, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nora Skeens. She was one of nine brothers and sisters, all deceased. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Haven Silas Broyles; one daughter, Loretta Ratcliff; and a son-in-law, Berman Shrader.

Survivors include her children, Evelyn Shrader of Greenville, S.C., Jean and Lowell Deeds of Narrows, Va., Vivian and Bob Forrester of Reidsville, N.C., Kay and Glen Fleeman of Winston-Salem, N.C., Marvin and Sharon Broyles of Wilmington, N.C., Judy and Coy Butler of Littleton, N.C., Jerry and Terri Broyles of Ripplemead, Va., and Penny and Johnny Mullins of Mount Airy, N.C.; one son-in-law, Leon Ratcliff of Fredericksburg, Va.; 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows, the Ladies’ Bible Class, and a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of First Christian Church, P.O. Box 441, Narrows, VA 24124.
