James R. Brown, 83, of New River, Va., departed this earth on Tuesday, August 29, 2006. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Flossie Manns Brown; five children, Patricia Thompson, Phillip (Rebecca) Brown, Montie (Carolyn) Brown, all of New River, Va., Thomas (Diane) Ferguson of Pulaski, Va., Bernita (Arthur) Gilliam of Sunset, N.J.; and two brothers, Leroy (Louise) Brown of Christiansburg, Va. and Sedric (Joyce) Brown of Radford, Va.

Daddy Ran was the loving grandfather of 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ran held a special place in his heart for all of his friends and church family from First Missionary Church, New River, Va. and friends from his work years at RFAAP and Martin Motor Company. Daddy Ran was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the renovation fund at First Missionary Church, P. O. Box 90, New River, Va. 24129. The family also extends a heart-felt thank you to Carilion Hospice services for all of their care and love for Daddy Ran during his time of illness.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, New River, Va. with the Rev. Ronald Brown officiating and the eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. Montie Brown. Burial will be at Sunrise Burial Park in Fairlawn, Va.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service at First Missionary Baptist Church, New River, Va. PENN’S FUNERAL HOME in charge of arrangements.
