Broce, Helen Criner
Helen Criner Broce, 92, of Blacksburg, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012. She was born in Newport, Va., to Charles and Jessie Criner on June 27, 1919, and was the devoted wife of Fred Broce for 52 years. Together, Fred and Helen raised their twin sons, Tommy and Eddie. Helen was a loving and caring mom. She enjoyed a passion for bowling and was a member of the Ingles Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. As an avid Virginia Tech sports fan, Helen’s Hokie spirit remained in her heart until her death. Helen is survived by her sons, Tommy Broce and Vicci Hogstett, of Corona Del Mar, Calif., and Eddie Broce, of Roswell, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jason Broce, of Atlanta, Ga., and Katie Broce, of Charleston, S.C. She is also survived by her brother, Don and his wife, Betty Coiner, of Williamsburg, Va.; five nephews; and three nieces. The family would like to thank the staff at Kroontje Center for their care. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, March 8, 2012, at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Va.
