Brewer, Virginia Huff

Virginia Huff (Gin) Brewer, 74, of Pulaski, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends that Gin had touched in some way throughout her life. She was born on June 16, 1937, in Carroll County, and was the daughter of the late Mazie Ayers Huff and Olen Denny Huff. Gin Brewer was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a children’s Sunday school teacher, and served on many committees with a special fondness and dedication for the Kitchen Committee. She was a long-term member of the United Methodist Women, holding many positions and chairmanships. She was a hairdresser for more than 35 years in the Pulaski area. Her last position was with Villa Beauty Salon, and served on the Board of Cosmetology for the State of Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Shelby (Jack) Colin Huff; and a sister, Mary Cline and a son-in-law, Blake M. Edwards Sr. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Robert (J.R.) Brewer, of Pulaski; two daughters, Terri Brewer Hash and her husband, Dean of Christiansburg, and Regina Brewer Edwards, of Pulaski, and a special friend, Jimmy Brunner, of Christiansburg; three sons, James Allen Brewer and his wife, Karen, of Atlanta, Ga., John Robert Brewer and his wife, Cheri, of Archdale, N.C., and Joel Kerry Brewer and his wife, Michelle, of Holly Springs, N.C.; a brother, James Clinton Huff and his wife, Ida Jean, of Woodlawn; a sister, Lois Huff Branscome and her husband, Russell, of Bristol, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Curtis Gray Brewer and his wife, Mary, and Joe Ellis Brewer; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gin is also survived by four loving grandchildren, Regina Whitney Edwards, Caleb Richard Brewer, Jenna Kerry Brewer, and Peyton Olivia Brewer; and step grandchildren, Cassandra Danielle Hash and Erika Christian Kaivani. Funeral Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Family Life Center from 3 until the 5 p.m. service time.
