Brenda Sue Smithson,

Brenda Sue Smithson, 63, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys Smithson; a sister, Patricia Ellen Church; and a brother, Junior Smithson. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Chris Simpkins, and Jennifer and Edward Andrews, all of Radford; five grandchildren, Cole, Cayden, Cordell, Charlie and Colton; one niece, Elizabeth Cohen; and many other friends and family. Brenda graduated from the Wytheville Community College Nursing Program in 1986, as president of her class. She was honored as the Rehabilitative Person of the Year in 1988, after which she continued to serve on the State Committee. She was employed by Montgomery Regional Hospital and the Showalter Center. Brenda enjoyed travel, especially to Hawaii, California and Alaska, but she most enjoyed her children and grandchildren. The family will receive family and friends on Friday, April 15, 2011, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held directly after at 2 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
