Bracken, Sarah Ellen Martin

Sarah Ellen Martin Bracken, 80, of 202 Thunder Road in Pembroke passed away Saturday October 27, 2007 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

She was born November 20, 1926 to the late Lon Murr Martin and Maggie Meredith Martin. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Martin Douthat and her beloved son, Samuel Martin Bracken.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Robert G. Bracken; a niece and caregiver, Joan D. Miller and husband Michael of Pembroke; a nephew, Glen Douthat of Pembroke; special friends, Summer and Noah Ramsey; numerous other beloved nieces and nephews.

Ellen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke since 1945, where she served faithfully as President of the Wesleyan Service Guild and United Methodist Women, Chairman of Council of Ministries, Chairman On Education, and Adult Sunday School Teacher. She was a retired employee of the U. S. Postal Service.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday October 30, 2007 at 10 a.m. in Pembroke First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Interment will follow in the Martin-Meredith Cemetery on Doe Creek Road near Pembroke.

The family will receive friends at The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial be made to Red Bird Mission School or Building Fund in care of First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 69, Pembroke, Va.
