Boyd, William Ray
William Ray (Poppy Bill) Boyd, 74, of Dublin, Va., passed away late Monday, January 16, 2012, at the Lewis Gale Hospital, Pulaski. Born in Allisonia, Va., on May 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Bernard Isaac and Stella Frances Quesenberry Boyd.
Also preceding him in death were his wife of 42 years, Edna Marie Boyd; brother, Bernard Lee Boyd; and sister, Margaret Ruby Crouse.
Bill lived for his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was recognized around town by his red 1995 Chevrolet truck. Bill retired from Hudson Chevrolet after 27 years of service, was a partner of Boyd’s Service Center for six years and was currently employed by Goodwill Industries.
Surviving are his sons and wives, Ricky Charles and Rita Darlene Boyd Sr., and Terry Wayne and Mindy P. Boyd; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law, Ethel and Carrol Whitt, Jackie and Shirley Fowler, and Roger and Joan Fowler; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012, from Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Blouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be held on Thursday evening, January 19, 2012, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Other visiting will be at the home of the son, Terry Boyd.
