The angels carried Okley Newton Boyd, 80, of Indian Valley, from the loving arms of his dearest family into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, September 7, 2008. Okley was born February 20, 1928. Okley was a devout Christian and dedicated his life in the work of the Lord. He was a member of Mitchell’s Chapel P.H. Church.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving devoted soul mate and wife of 60 years is Goldie Phillips Boyd. His life was blessed with five wonderful children and their spouses, Martha Boyd Allen and Charlie, Hazel Boyd Sutphin and Jack, Clifford Earl Boyd and Ann, Linda Boyd Fountaine and Greg, and Brenda Boyd Epperly and Derwin. He is cherished by his 17 special grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Maretha Boyd Lester, Reba Boyd Higgs, Blanche Boyd Quesenberry and Ruby Boyd Simpkins; special brother-in-law, Sheldon and Evelyn Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.

Okley was a life time dairy farmer who instilled Christian morals and hard working values into his family. He was a school bus driver of 18 years, a charter and life time member of the Indian Valley Fire Department, Station #4 and served on Farm Bureau and Social Services Boards.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday September 10, 12008, at Mitchell Chapel P.H. Church, Dugspur, Va., officiated by the Rev. Harvey Carico and Pastor Jerry Blevins with interment to follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at the church. Okley always believed in helping others, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Indian Valley Fire Department or Rescue Squad, Gideons International, or charity of your choice.
