Boyd, Alma Ruth Duncan

Alma Ruth Duncan Boyd, 92, of Hickory, N.C., died on Monday, November 1, 2010, at Lutheran Home Hickory West, Hickory, N.C., after a period of declining health. Born on September 1, 1918, in Pulaski County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Kitty Swecker Duncan and Byrd Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Boyd; a daughter, Linda B. Harris; two brothers, Charlie B. Duncan and Roy E. Duncan; and two sisters, Elsie D. Tickle and Helen D. Elkins. She is survived by a daughter, Ann B. Blackburn and her husband, Al, of Hickory; son-in-law, Bob Harris, of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Boyd and Andrea Blackburn, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Greg Blackburn, of Malvern, Pa., Suzanne H. Pollack and Jeff Pollack, of Joliet, Ill., and Steven and Maria Harris, of Oswego, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Hannah and Max Blackburn, Paul and Nicole Blackburn, and Luke and Jake Pollack; and a many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker and dental office manager in Virginia. In 1978, she retired with her husband to Hickory where she enjoyed her flower gardens, songbirds, neighbors and church friends. For over 30 years she found great delight in sharing the many milestones of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2010, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Hickory, where Mrs. Boyd was an active member of the Jake Golden Bible Class. A Graveside Service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Thornsprings Methodist Church Cemetery, Pulaski County, Va.
