bowles minor harrisonMinor Harrison Bowles, 81, of Dennis Street in Pearisburg, departed this life Monday morning, October 8, 2012 at his home in the loving care of his family. Born in Montgomery County on February 22, 1931 he was a son of the late Mark Harrison and Elsie Elizabeth Linkous Bowles. He was a veteran of the U S Army, Korean Conflict, and for many years worked for VDOT where he retired as Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Earl Bowles, his sister Mary Epperly, his half-brothers Arthur, Mark, Lewis and Charlie Bowles and a special nephew Travis Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved and faithful wife Hazel Mae Hypes Bowles; his son Gary L. Bowles of Pearisburg, his daughter Brenda G. Bowles of Rich Creek; his brother Bill Bowles of Ripplemead; his sister Evelyn Echols of Ironto; his two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; his sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce and Frank Longrie, Eleanor and the late Roy Newby, Edna and the late William Martin, the late Leroy Hypes and his wife Ruby; his special neice and nephew Angie Davis and family, Rusty Newby and family; special great-nephews, neice Skyler Martin, Scott Welcherm Lisa Ferguson; and a host of other young people who called his home their home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 pm in Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 until 2 pm before the service.
