Bowers, Charles Richard

Charles Richard Bowers, age 87, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Westwood Center in Bluefield, VA, with family by his side. Born March 31, 1938, in Wikel, WV, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary Catherine Bowers.

Richard owned many businesses in his lifetime, including convenience stores, a restaurant, antique shops, and his logging business. He was a strong-willed man who spent endless hours in the woods logging, then at his log yard for the years leading to his retirement at age 83. After the hard work was done, Richard loved to dance and could flat foot like no other. He was the life to every get together and had a laugh that will be remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and always had a ballgame on the tv.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Jane Bowers. He surprised her one last time by joining her in eternity on their 68th wedding anniversary. Additionally, he was preceded in death by several siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, Larry Bowers (Sherry) of Newburgh, IN, David Bowers (Patty) of Princeton, WV, and Rex Bowers (Jodi) of Lindside, WV; one daughter, Lisa Bowers Munsey (the late James Munsey Jr.) of Lindside, WV; one sister, Allene Rollison (John) of Marietta, OH; one brother, Jimmy Bowers (Carla) of Lake City, FL; grandchildren, Jason Bowers, Samantha Jellison, Theresa Bowers, Jennifer Bowers, Deric Bowers, the late Deresa Bowers, Bret Bowers, Britney Greer, and Amanda Dunbar; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Todd Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Wikel, WV. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Bret Bowers, Deric Bowers, Eli Bowers, Matt Dunbar, Hunter Dunbar, and Easton Dunbar will serve as pallbearers. Matt Williams, Jason Bowers, and Ethan Bowers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
