Marie Maddox Bowen, 84, of Christiansburg, died in peace, Sunday, May 17, 2009, at her home with her family and friends. She was born in Detroit, Mich. on January 28, 1925, to the late Preston and Gladys Mulligan Maddox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Kenneth Bowen. Marie and Kenneth founded and owned M.K. Bowen Construction Company. Mrs. Bowen was one of the first women to be licensed as an owner and operator. She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, M. Kay and Fred Pagonis, of Warrenton, Va., Wendy and Doug Jones, of Knoxville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Deborah Bowen, of Stokesdale, N.C.; six grandchildren, Wendy, Justin, Matthew, Tina, Pam and husband, Paul, and Fatie and wife, Sarah; four greatgrandchildren, Charleston, Dylan, Sam, and new addition due in November; extended family, Diane Wells, Ronnie Bland, Vicki Scott.

The family wishes to thank Carilion New River Valley Hospice.

Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Larry Carter officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following service at McCoy Funeral, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg.
