Bond, Howard
Howard Bond, of Blacksburg, Va., died Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Salem VA Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Campbell County on May 6, 1946, Howard was the son of the late Harvey Lee Bond and Nina South Barnes. In addition to his parents, his brothers, Kenneth and Ronald Bond, also preceded him in death.
Howard is survived by his son, Jeffrey Howard Bond and his wife Sara of Madison Heights. Howard is survived by his sister, Barbara Lloyd and her husband, Lenn. Lenn and Barbara raised Howard from the age of nine and thought of him as a son. His sister-in-law, Alice Bond of Lynch Station and a number of nieces and nephews also survive him. His former wife, Beverly Sizer Bond, remained a very special friend and caregiver of Howard’s for many years. Beverly was by Howard’s side throughout his recent illness and was with him when he was received into the Lord’s arms.
Before making his home in Blacksburg, Virginia, Howard enjoyed many friendships and working relationships in Lynchburg. Howard graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1965. Howard was of the protestant faith and a charter member of Keystone Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Howard was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, N.C. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from April 1969 to May 1970 during which time he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Leawood Baptist Church, 345 Munford Street, in Lynchburg. A private family celebration of his life will be held at his home “Buckskin” on Sunday, March 4, 2007.
