Blessing, Herschel “Bud”

Herschel Heileman “Bud” Blessing, 85, of Bastian, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2018. He was born November 23, 1932, the son of the late H. Mark & Audrey Heileman Blessing.

He was a lifelong member and elder of Bastian Union Church and a founding member of the Bland County Medical Clinic. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an entrepreneur and wholesaled poultry and eggs with his brother as Blessing Bros. Known as “Paw Paw Bud”, his family was his pride and joy, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Danese King Blessing.

Left to cherish his memory are his son & daughter-in-law, Herschel P. & MaryAnn Blessing; his daughter & son-in-law, Anna & John Mark Abbey; his grandchildren, Gregory C. & Shana Jones, Benjamin P. & Lydia Blessing, MaryBeth Blessing, Alisha & James Maloyed and Evan Abbey; seven great-grandchildren; a brother & sister-in-law, Henry & Susan Blessing; a sister, Margie Smith; a very special cousin, Betty Joyce Finney; and several nieces, nephews and friends, too many to list.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Bastian Union Church with Pastor Paul Looney and Pastor John Blessing officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his honor to the Bastian Union Church Mission Team, P.O. Box 152, Bastian, VA, 24314.
