blankenship e scottDr. E. Scott Blankenship, 92, of Eggleston, departed this life Saturday morning, March 24, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem after a long illness. Born in Bland County on March 20, 1920, he was a son of the late Elmer J. and Clara Etta Clark Blankenship. He was a retired professor from Illinois State University, a veteran of the United States Army World War II, 168th Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action near Sinet, Tunisia, North Africa. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Ohio State University in 1955. For many years he had been retired to the Eggleston Community in Giles County. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Virginia Mae Farmer Blankenship and several brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory his son and daughter-in-law with whom he made his home, Dean and Kathy Blankenship, of Eggleston; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Blankenship-Lofstrom and Melvin Lofstrom, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; his grandchildren, Chris and Marissa Stanley; his great-grandchildren, Cullen, Zane and Ava Stanley; and his favorite pets, the dogs that he loved and that loved him, Niko, Kuma, and Yoshi. Memorial Services will be private with the family. The family suggests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made in memory of E. Scott Blankenship to your favorite charity , to alleviate hunger locally and around the world. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is handling the arrangements.
