Blankenship, Daniel Lee
Daniel Lee (Danny) Blankenship, 72 of Narrows, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a lengthy illness. He was born in Bland County on June 28th, 1941, and was the son of the late Claude and Clara Shrader Blankenship. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Spicer, the mother of his two sons; three sisters, Jane, Lillie Mae, and Alice; and a brother, Wesley.
Danny was a self-made man. He started working in the concrete business with his father when he was 13 years old. While still a young man, he started his own business, Danny Blankenship, Concrete Contractor. He was well-known in the construction industry throughout the eastern United States, and as far west as the Ohio valley. Danny was well respected for his honesty, integrity, great generosity, and sense of humor. Danny often stated that he poured and finished enough concrete to reach from Virginia to California and back. He’d often pour and finish concrete all day, then coon hunt all night with Buck and Mop.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, friend and caregiver, Terry Kay Blankenship; two sons whom he loved very much, Darryl Lee Blankenship, Sr., and David Wayne Blankenship a stepdaughter, Jodi Cheeks and husband J.D.; seven grandchildren, including a special grandson and love of his life, Jake; seven great-grandchildren; his loving sister, Barbara Pennington; baby brother, Dale Blankenship; good friend and brother, Jerry Blankenship; his right hand man, Brian Mullins, who was like a son to him; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
